Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang said tourism accounts for nearly 10 per cent of the Himalayan stateβs gross state domestic product (GSDP) and holds significant potential for further expansion. He noted that the government is prioritising eco-tourism, cultural tourism and community-based models aimed at strengthening local livelihoods. Highlighting long-term sustainability, Tamang said initiatives such as more than 1,000 homestays, along with programmes like Mero Rukh Mero Santati and Shishu Samriddhi Yojana, demonstrate the stateβs commitment to empowering future generations and promoting climate action.
